Bathurst, NB >> Caribou, NS (via Prince Edward Island) 370 miles ridden/7.5 hours (+16-mile/75-minute ferry across the Northumberland Straight)
Today I followed the coast from Bathurst to the 8-mile Confederation Bridge, which spans the Northumberland Strait and has connected Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick since 1997.
En route, I stopped in a marina to see if I couldn’t sneak in another sailing adventure, but the place was practically deserted. The only person around was a French-speaking fisherman repairing his nets. When I asked why he was at work so early, he explained that his day was just wrapping up; he leaves port after sundown because “Tuna don’t sleep at night.”
Having crossed the Confederation Bridge, I traversed Prince Edward Island on the Trans-Canada Highway to the Wood Islands ferry, which will take me to Caribou, NS, where I’ll camp tonight. The ferry arrived as the sun was setting, making for a picturesque cruise.
By catching the last ferry, I managed to combine two days of riding into one. If all goes well, I should be able to catch the Saturday ferry from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Argentia, Newfoundland.
